Description

Ross's Butternuts   Scottish Sweets

These are round orange balls called butternuts.

I would say they are a boiling with a hard shell and a soft chewy centre.

They have a buttery taste and no nuts are inside at all.

A lovely sweet made in Scotland. So a true Scottish Classic.

Great as a wedding favour or ideal in sweet buffets. Mainly due to the amazing colours.

Ingredients

sugar,glucose syrup,butter,vanillin colour E110

You were the only supplier who offered these sweets in manageable quantities! They are a surprise for someone who enjoyed them as a child.

    Butternuts & Irn Bru

Posted by Unknown on 23rd Aug 2017

It's been decades since I've been able to find these - I used to buy them with my pocket money back in the 1960's when I visited my Granny in Leven.

We would journey from the Midlands during the summer and Granny always greeted us with a glass of Irn Bru and I'd walk to the wee shop over the road for my annual treat - a wee paper 'poke of butternuts.

My happiest memory ever. Thank you for reminding me - my English children love them too as do they adore Irn Bru!

Over 70 discerning people tried these as part of a launch of a product that had an orange identity, hence many kilos of these orange sweets. I couldn't suck for more than a few seconds, others ate them by the handful. Think it's a regional thing! I found them soapy, I was expecting tart sharp orange sweets. However service, packaging and helpfulness 10/10
